Sukup Says Goodbye To Our Interns

Here at Sukup Manufacturing Co. we believe that one of our greatest assets is our long-term employees. Nearly 30% of full-time employees have been with us for more than 10 years. One thing we attribute this to is our internship program. It is important to us that all our interns have a meaningful and informational experience.

As the summer comes to an end, we sadly had to say good bye to our interns.  This summer we had 22 interns in all different departments, from Engineering to Advertising to Manufacturing. Sukup offers paid internships that help prepare students for their future careers and exceptional participants are often offered the chance to stay part time during the school year and join us after graduation. During the program students have the opportunity to earn college credits, participate in Lunch n’ Learn opportunities where they enjoy activities such as a welding simulator competition and learn important information about 401K and planning for retirement, attend company events, housing for those interested, and a farewell event where we recognize our interns and their accomplishments.

It is important to the company that we have a variety of individuals with different backgrounds and experiences. Carly Lawler – Manufacturing Processes Intern, Benjamin Tope – Project Management Intern, and Alexander Theilen – Supply Chain Intern shared that they have little agriculture background, but they were excited to learn more throughout their experience. Carly says, “I don’t have any direct agriculture background, but Sukup welcomed me with open arms from the start at Iowa State’s Technology Industry Night and it’s been very beneficial.” Kirsten Suntken – Advertising/Sales Intern and Trey Elbert – Design Engineering Intern are more familiar with the agriculture world and Sukup. Kirsten’s family put up a new Sukup grain bin system on their farm last fall and Trey is participating in his second internship at Sukup Manufacturing Co. Trey says, “The most beneficial thing Sukup has taught me is working in a team, I get to work on projects with multiple different people, so communication is key.”

If you are interested in learning more about Sukup’s Internship Program there are plenty of opportunities. We attend many college career fairs including Iowa State University’s, Sukup Day, (September 12th) Technology Industry Night (September 18th) ISU Engineering Career Fair (September 19th) and the Business, Industry, & Technology Career Fair (September 20th).
